Portable Applications
For anyone who carts around their important data on a USB drive, I found an excellent resource for adding to how useful that drive is. Check out PortableApps.com. This place is dedicated to applications and conversions of applications that will run from a portable drive.
Since I find myself habitually rebuilding and/or reformatting my machines, this gives me a good way to keep all my applications and settings even though my machine may only have a bare-metal OS installation. For "normal" people, it's still a great way to centralize your apps, and be able to use them on just about any Windows machine. For example, while visiting or at work, you can still use your copy of Firefox, with your bookmarks, extensions, and saved settings, and not have to worry about leaving footprints all over the system that you're visiting. Using relative-path, registry-free applications also greatly simplifies system backups.
